Not too long ago, we moved our son from his crib to his big boy bed. We have been working on his room little by little. You can see some of it here and here. I wasn’t prepared for just how emotional I would be when we dismantled the crib. It was a gift from my parents when we were pregnant with our first child. I will never forget laying on the floor {as I was on strict bed rest for three months} watching my hubby put it together in the nursery. It was such a special moment. If you have children, then you know the endless hours you spend peering over the side of the crib checking on your babies. And of course the late night feeds and diaper changes that inevitably lead to a once again peaceful baby snuggled in their crib. So . . . I just couldn’t bring myself to get rid of this piece of furniture. Here it is in our daughter’s nursery {this was our first home}. And here it is in my son’s nursery And finally, the two big kids having fun in the crib while mommy was quite emotional the day we took it apart. Once the crib was dismantled, I kept looking at the two ends of it. I have always loved the curves and the classic feel it has. It suddenly occurred to me that we could give this baby new life. My five year old still didn’t have a headboard so I could give her one while still holding on to this memorable piece of furniture. We really didn’t have to do a thing other than place the two ends together. It is slightly wider than her full mattress, but that is just fine as it will still work if we switch to a queen mattress at some point. To hide the seem between the two crib ends, I attached a small ceiling medallion that we already had. I like the extra detail it adds. I am one happy mama. The fact that we were able to hold onto the crib is so special to me and my husband. Not to mention how lovely it is to have a beautiful headboard at no cost to us!!! What a great idea Courtney! My little guy is about to move into a big boy bedroom and ditch the cib as well. I think we might look into doing this as a new guest bedroom o master bedroom headboard (both needed!). What size was it after you put them together? Queen?

I love your soft heart Courtney- I totally get it. One day I realized that James had chewed the entire length of his inner crib railing while he was teething. Even seeing those little teeth marks now chokes me up. Such a great idea to repurpose the ends- and we love seeing pics of you! Can you believe how big your kiddos look in the little crib- adorable!
