We had Grammy and Papa over for dinner on the weekend and before they came, the kiddos really wanted to decorate and make our table look “party-ish” {that is their term, not mine!}. And if you follow me on Instagram, you already saw how Valentine’s Day exploded on our table while making hearts and decorations. The kids loved every second of it. They were busy tracing hearts while I worked on some other fun things to make it feel festive for Grammy & Papa. I hand drew a couple of “X”s and “O”s to hang on our French doors. They certainly aren’t perfect, but did the trick. I attached them to baker’s twine with the hot glue gun. Oh, and rest assured, I did bite my husband’s head off when he went out these doors with full force and my “XOXO” went flying. So not cool. Doesn’t he know he lives with a blogger? No door is safe! We thought it would be fun to have a little bag at everyone’s seat that held sweet treats for dessert. When you have a child who is allergic to chocolate or any major allergy, this is a great trick. You can hand pick what goes in each bag and that way at the end of dinner each guest has yummy treats to nibble on. He was thrilled with his lemon cookie and snickerdoodle while the rest of us downed way too much dark chocolate. I glued the extra felt ribbon I had {left over from these mason jars} on each bag. Once filled with treats, I just folded them over, hole punched and tied them up. Each one also received a heart my daughter had traced to act as the place card. Multi tasking at its finest! We added some hearts to the stripey straws to make the milk for the kiddos look more fun! Milk always tastes better with a cute straw! To make the runner, I used the new wrapping paper I chatted about here and placed it under the acrylic runner. It has seriously been so great on our table. It can get dirty, wet, etc. and I can just wipe it down. My daughter cut and traced the hearts to put under it as well. And yes, the mason jars took a trip from my mantel to the table for the evening. … … … … And that is how we got out Valentine on for Grammy and Papa. We had a great night and it was really fun to have the kids be involved. They both have Valentine fever and can not wait to pass out their valentine’s this week. I am trying to savor these moments and some how harness the love and excitement that they pour into these types of activities. If only it could last forever.
