Ballard Knock-Off {Before and After}

May 31, 2011 by Courtney 29 Comments

You may remember that a while back I ordered a Ballard Inspired Bench from K-Mart. Yes, K-Mart. I instantly fell in love with the look and the price. And seeing that we have two small children who manage to leave their mark on quite a few things, it seemed the way to go. I loved the color, the tufted top, the ample storage, and the nail head trim. The only thing I didn’t love were the white feet.  It’s taken me . . .oh, just a few months to whip out a can of spray paint, but I finally did it. I love the new look of the feet and it resembles the Ballard Amelia Bench even more now. Here is what I started with: IMG_8497 And here is the bench with its new darker feet: IMG_1817IMG_1829IMG_1831IMG_1843 One of my readers had recommended this spray paint in Espresso. It is just the perfect shade. IMG_1839 A found a couple of fun green accent pieces for the room. The cute coasters are from Pier 1 Imports and the little green dish is from Michael’s dollar section.  And I posted about my new green pillow here. IMG_1848IMG_1850       IMG_1854 I hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend. Other than my five minute spray paint project, we relaxed and spent time with family and friends. I would love to hear about any projects you checked off the list!

    I love the way the bench turned out! It totally brought up the "value" of it, it totally looks expensive.

    That looks amazing! The bench looks so different, just with a small change. It looks like a wood stain too- you would never know it was spray paint! Great project! 🙂

    I love your blog and your decorating style. Everything looks wonderful! I especially like the coasters. I'll have to go check them out at Pier 1.

    Not sure if my last comment posted – I had a little computer glitch. Love the quick and easy update – that looks awesome! And I love the bench, I had found a similar one at Urban Outfitters but now I'm going to check Kmart to see what the price is there. And I love the green trellis pillow – I have a similar print on the curtains in my kitchen (and I still need to make another set).
    Also got handy w/ some spray paint over the weekend – check it out if you get a chance:

    Lovely as always! I was coveting that bench as well, but I wanted to see it in the store first (wasn't sure if it would be of a poor quality since it was from Kmart?). Now I totally wish I'd gone for it! And the update to the feet makes it look totally Ballard. Awesome job!

    What a difference five lil' minutes make! I'm still amazed that chic little thing came from Kmart! Krazy (to go with Kmart, right?). Your living room looks just so comfy and beautiful!

    Love the espresso feet! Isn't it amazing how just changing the feet or legs on a piece really changes the look. That bench is wonderful and a great find at KMart. I've liked it both ways. Have a great week, Courtney!

    K-mart? I don't believe it. Although, I am always surprised yet wind up buying things that people point out to me at K-mart, Courtney. That is really a great looking ottoman and I love the neutrality of it. I found you through Crystal at Ordinary Days. : )
