Morning. We had temps in the 30s last night. Fall is definitely upon us which feels really nice. We are full steam ahead with the basement which is a welcome project. I keep thinking about how much my dad would love this whole process. He was a true engineer and he loved things like this. Here is a look at where we are today.
COUNTERTOPS ARE IN
Countertop installation day is the best day. It’s so exciting to see them bring in the stone you’ve picked out. We chose leathered Taj Mahal quartzite. I love the movement and the warmth. The leathered finish is hard to capture on camera but really elevates the look of the stone.
Our paint color is Ashwood Moss by Benjamin Moore. A dark, moody hue with green undertones.
Our flooring is an LVP. We sampled so many including the Hewn choices. I fell in love with the color and the look. If you choose it for your own project, be sure to reach out to me as I can pass along a discount code.
THE MAKINGS OF AN ARCH
I am thankful it’s taken us a minute to really get the basement project rolling because I have had time to really think through the different choices and designs. I knew I wanted open shelving but then I suddenly pictured an arch. Not only will it be pretty, but it serves as a nice focal point for the room and gives substantial height to this area. It also creates a starting and stopping point for shelves if you don’t want to go with the floating shelf look.
We used this sink. My sister just built a home and also used a Kraus. Great sinks.
Really hoping that what I see in my head translates to the walls. Do you ever feel that way? It’s a bit of a hope and prayer at this point.
ARCHES THROUGHOUT
We have arches throughout or main level so it ties in nicely. And because we are going so dark in the basement, it will be nice for the spaces to have some of the same elements.
All of the details on our kitchen can be found in this post. Measurements are broken down here.
AMAZING INSPIRATION
This looks like something out of a boutique hotel and I am in love with it. If anyone has the source, please leave a note below so I can credit. This is just so pretty. Our space won’t be nearly as fancy or polished but it will have an arch with open shelves. I just think it’s a really warm and cozy way to add architectural interest to a space.
Our walls and the arch will all be painted the dark Ashwood Moss so I will be using a very light tile on the wall to create contrast.
Always fun to look back at where we started. More details on this project and how it came to be in this post.
BACK IN STOCK
Just a heads up that this faucet is back in stock. My husband has installed three of them in this home (three in our last) because we love it so much. Beautiful quality and a dream to install. We like the polished nickel because it’s a warm tone.
I also spotted this vanity which I would use in a heartbeat. So good. Don’t do what I did and overpay for a custom one. There are so many beautiful options for far less.
I’m off to check on an arch. Things are moving now and it’s exciting/stressful! I hope you have a wonderful day.

This is the company. They do beautiful work.
Also, Google lens app is fabulous for sourcing and locating items. Simply snap a photo of what you want to locate and it will scan the web for the source. It is also incredibly helpful when hiking and we see a specific bird or plant we are unfamiliar with. It’s very informative and educational. 😊
