Fall Mantel | A Touch of Gold

September 24, 2013 by Courtney 31 Comments

It’s finally looking a bit like fall around here. I thought we were headed into cooler temps, but apparently we were just being teased. I must admit I am ready to whip out the jeans and boots. Come on, cooler weather! This year I decided to shake things up and do more of a funky and fun color scheme. I chose gold, black, and white. I was actually inspired by the banner I purchased from Target. It is such a cute blend of chevron, herringbone, hounds tooth and sparkle. It was a perfect jumping off piece for the rest of the mantel.   atouchofgoldmantel   I chose to keep things very very simple. That seems to fit this color scheme best. I painted two of our pumpkins white {the kiddos painted theirs as well so it was a fun family project}. After painting this one two coats of white, I sprayed circle stickers gold and adhered them to the pumpkin with super glue. polkadotpumpkin   The other white pumpkin was taped off so that I could spray just the bottom of it gold. Both pumpkins got a little dolled up with black grosgrain ribbon and gold leaves. IMG_3890   If you happen to have this banner, it may look a little bit different. It originally came with enough cards to spell out “Happy Halloween.” I wasn’t quite ready to have the Halloween up so I altered the ‘E’ to be an ‘F’ so that I could spell, “Happy Fall.” I kept the little part of the ‘E’ I cut off so that I can still spell “Happy Halloween” as October 31 approaches!     IMG_3893   These leaves are from our yard and I just gave them a quick coat of gold spray paint. They are just tucked inside the bow to add height and dimension to the pumpkin. IMG_3906   A TOUCH OF GOLD MANTEL IMG_3907 … goldleaves   The branch is from a tree in our yard. I gave it a light coat of white paint and then sprayed just the tips of each branch with gold. The little bird is resting in the tree with a couple of gold leaves {So realistic, I know. Don’t your birds chill with gold leaves?}. IMG_3913   These mason jars were a DIY project right here. I switched this one up with two rows of electrical tape. So easy. IMG_3916 … polkadot …   IMG_3922   Here is one last look of the entire mantel. I like how you can get a little sneak peek of our gold cornered frames in the mirror. fallmantel2013 This is a MAJOR departure from our more rustic mantel last year.  And our Halloween mantel can be found here. It’s always fun to switch things up a bit. What about you? Are you getting  your fall on? Are you going the traditional route or getting a little bit funky with it? h a p p y   f a l l,   y a ’ l l {and a big thank you to BGH.com for featuring one of my fall mantels!} Excited to share this mantel with my friend Sarah over at Thrifty Décor Chick

Really like the simple color scheme – it will be easy to switch it over to a Halloween mantel. The pumpkins turned out great. I bed your kids loved painting them.

Cute cute! Love the colors and all the fun things you did with the pumpkins. I may have to go find that banner at Target. (And how creative were you making a Halloween banner into a fall banner?!)
