Five Ways to Style an Outdoor Space

May 8, 2014 by Courtney 15 Comments

I am excited to bring back a “Five Ways” post today. They have been some of my readers favorites. You can catch up on past installments below. Today it is all about the outdoor space. Summer is peeking around the corner and whether you have a large space or a tiny space, it’s fun to make it feel like home. Our outdoor spaces are quite cozy {that’s code for super duper small} so I am always on the lookout for great inspiration to make them feel more grand and beautiful. Today I am sharing five ways to get a great look outdoors. styleoutdoorspaces one[5]     USE INDOOR ITEMS   five ways to style outdoor spaces via by way of NY Times This stopped me dead in my tracks this week. Hello, gorgeous space. What drew me in is that this siding is exactly what we have. It has me rethinking my entire space. Much to my hubby’s dismay. But this is fantastic. Essentially bringing elements that feel much more “indoors” out. And with that, a touch of glamour and comfort. Adore the mirror and the table full of greenery.   two[5]     CREATE A LIVING ROOM     outdoor2 via emily a. clark Similar to the previous example, Emily used a lot of greenery in her outdoor patio. While we don’t all have a space like this, if you do, consider making it a true living room. {Needs to be covered, of course}. I really like her rustic console table and bright outdoor rug. Again we see how well a mirror works outdoors.   three[5]      GO WILD WITH COLOR     outdoor3 via a thoughtful place  This porch belongs to me. It isn’t large, but we are out here all of the time. We love to watch the children play, chat with neighbors and enjoy a cocktail here and there. We have many late night talks out on this porch. I decided to go big with the color and pattern. Don’t be afraid to go bold and mix patterns. The footstool ties it all together but a printed pillow could do the same.   four[4]     RECOVER AN OLD PIECE     outdoor4 via I heart organizing Girl after my own heart. Here, Jen mixed a ton of different patterns and colors to achieve a gorgeous outdoor space. I love the way she took an old footstool and simply covered it with outdoor fabric. Genius. Really, really smart. It is now able to stand up to the elements and it’s a punch of pattern and color. Start shopping your own house or garage for pieces you no longer have a spot for. Maybe they can take on a new life outdoors.   five[4]     CREATE AN INSTANT PORCH     outdorr5 via thrifty décor chick And the very talented, Sarah, just created a porch for her and her hubby. They too were wanting to be out front at times, despite their gorgeous backyard, and created this spot with two Adirondack chairs, colorful pillows and pretty flowers. I love the warmth of the basket. She recreated a pretty arrangement she had seen. Girl has skills. …….. And those of you who are new around here may not remember the photo shoot my sister and I did for House of Fifty. The whole concept was about brining the indoors out for a summer party. Bring back such good memories. summersoiree more photos from this shoot here If you have missed other installments of the “Five Ways” series, you can catch up below! Such great tips! We're slaving away to get our backyard patio area up to par for the warmer weather. Last weekend we cleaned out the pool shed and found a nest of baby rats…how do you suggest we incorporate those into the outdoor decor?!? 😉

I am so jealous of these beautiful outdoor spaces. Gorgeous! We just don't get the weather for these kind of outdoor spaces here in Ireland.
