I heart Cable Knit: Upcycled Sweater

November 18, 2010 by Courtney 21 Comments

Oh, how I love a good sweater! Especially one that is cable knit. Not only do I love wearing them, but I love decorating with them now as well. Long before I had my own blog, I saw what Stephanie Lynn had done with her beautiful sweater over at Under the Table and Dreaming. Take a look. I have seen some more of these floating around in blog land so I knew when one of my favorite sweaters had seen it’s last days {hole in the sleeve and baby food stains . . . sob}, it would have a new happy home no matter what. Here is my cozy Gap sweater before the scissors go to it! IMG_8074 IMG_8087                                                      Cutting off the sleeves is all you have to do! IMG_8078 I wrapped it over glass vase that I already had. I pulled the cuff down to the bottom {love the way that looks at the base}and simply tucked the remaining sleeve down into the vase. I chose not to glue or secure anything because I know myself and will want to use it on a different vase down the road. I am ALWAYS changing things up! IMG_8077                                                                                    {printable from craftily ever after} But there was still precious sweater left over! I wanted more of this warm, textured look around for the fall. So I grabbed this bowl. It’s one of my very favorite pieces {given to me by my mom}. But I pull it out during Christmas and New Year’s Eve when I go a little more glam. So it’s perfect for wearing a sweater during Thanksgiving! IMG_8097 I pulled the sweater down around it and taped it to the bottom to keep it in place. Then tucked the rest inside the bowl. Placing another dish or bowl inside will hide the extra material and be perfect for fresh fruit. IMG_8088 IMG_8089IMG_8091IMG_8092IMG_8093IMG_8096                                                    The texture is great and I love the cozy feel of it.                                                 Here are a few more beautiful cable knit fun finds. Do you have an old sweater begging for a new life? Have you already worked your magic on one?

I love it Courtney! I haven't seen that application of the cable knit sweater yet! I covet those pillows at PB – they are so cozy aren't they? They just say "sit by the far and drink cocoa" don't they? Thanks for sharing that easy craft for fall/winter decor.

So super cute, Courtney! I love cable knit 'stuff', but not on me. I don't like adding bulk…unless it's in the form of dessert.
