Master Closet: Scarf Savvy

October 24, 2011 by Courtney 26 Comments

Anyone who knows me in person knows that part of my daily uniform is most often a scarf! I love that adding a scarf to jeans and a tank or long sleeve tee instantly adds color. You really can’t go wrong. Where you can go very wrong is when they overtake your closet. My hubs and I share a closet {not ideal, I know} and we overhauled it in this post. I took a tip from Megan at Honey We’re Home and her fab closet. She used small kid size hangers for her sweaters and it suddenly occurred to me that those would be perfect for my scarves. So it was off to my daughter’s closet to steal a few. IMG_4977 The rod above my dresser which you can see below was essentially wasted space. IMG_7441 So I am now able to hang a large part of my scarf collection right there. IMG_4998 The small size of the hanger is perfect for these. IMG_4973 The gray and white striped tray is an Ikea find and is home to my flowers {I usually wear them in my hair or clipped to a sweater}. The dresser is also from Ikea and I just added the hardware. IMG_4983 Much better than the pile of scarves on top of the dresser that I had going on for way too long. Hope you all had a fantastic weekend. We had fun cheering on our Gator Girl in soccer and went to an amazing first birthday party. Didn’t quite get to the stenciling, but I will. Happy Monday.

Love this idea! I have one of those wooden scarf hangers, but it is so hard to see each one. I just realized that is the same dresser we have in our closet! I love the hardware you added…hmm…might just have to make me another trip to Ikea!

Awesome idea. My scarves have been hanging over our bedroom door for years, I've tried putting them in the closet, but they always find their way to the floor. Hoping this works wonderfully!

OK – your closet looks the exact opposite of mine and I'm totally jealous. Mine stays organized for about 24 hours and then it looks like it threw up on itself.

Cute! I have so much organizing left to do in the closets that Bath Crashers installed at our house- I'm definitely borrowing this idea. Now if only they would come back and install those closet doors…http://oneprojectatatime.blogspot.com/2011/06/bath-crashers-ambush.html

Yeah, I think I'm going to have to copy. I thought my scarves were 'perfectly organized' all folded in my new bin. I think I dump it like 5-6 times per week searching for what I want! Inspiring as always girl!

It's the little things, now isn't it??? I swear, it's sick how happy seeing things organized makes me…I have a problem! Well, *problems*, but hey, as far as I'm concerned (and probably my husband), the organizing bug is a blessing!! Looks great, court!

You are wonderfully organized! I love your idea of the little hangers for scarves. I am a scarf person myself and need to do something with mine. I must go in search of little hangers this week!

That is a great idea — and of course I'm a scarf addict too! And they are great for travel bc they take up NO room and have so many uses! Mine are piled up on hooks in the coat closet…not ideal. Love your idea on the hangers!

Just my two cents – instead of spending the money on children's hangers, you can go into an accessory store like Ardenes and they'll likely just give you some. I do the same thing for my flats – I ask for the little plastic hangers they use for display purposes! : )
