I have received so many messages about seeing the finished basement. I love that you are as excited as we are but you definitely didn’t miss the reveal. There isn’t one yet. While we finished the remodel, we are still working to furnish the space. I promised myself I would not rush it and try to make wise decisions. Having said that, we have made some progress and I wanted to share that today. Welcome in!
OUR BASEMENT KITCHEN
The kitchen turned out just as we had hoped. It’s a nice spot to be able to entertain from and enjoy as a family. The entire room is painted Ashwood Moss by Benjamin Moore.
The tile we used is Zellige Oat Ceramic by Floor & Decor. The grout color is Avalanche by Mapei. The brass railing is from Paxton Hardware and the sconces can be found here.
THANKSGIVING DINNER
We wrapped up the construction and painting a week before Thanksgiving. I knew we were hosting 25 people so using the unfurnished basement made perfect sense. It was a really special way to break in the new space. I love that we have the memories from this dinner.
If you are local, Southern Events Rental is fantastic. Can’t say enough great things about them. They provided the tables, chairs and place settings to make the day so special. I dried oranges to add to each name card. My dear friend, Pam, created the beautiful flower arrangements.
The best part was having this room filled with laughter and meaningful conversations during dinner. I will forever be grateful this is how we welcomed in this new space in our home. Now it’s time to furnish it!
ADDING PIECES IN
Now that we have an empty room, we are slowly adding pieces in. I started looking around at console tables and they are so pricey. Not only that, but I couldn’t find the correct dimensions. I would love to stumble upon an antique piece but that takes time and patience. I searched high and low and found these cabinets from Walmart! I couldn’t believe it. We used three small cabinets together. But there is also a larger size.
I love the storage they offer and the pretty dark color (other colors available). The price is incredible. Is it a high end piece of furniture . . .nope . . . but we are thrilled with them and love the price point. We will be mounting a large television above this so for us it works out really well.
The pretty throws are incredibly soft and the baskets are $10 each.
We’ve also added this soft rug to the space. I love that it brings in the wall color and still keeps things neutral. Next up will be sofas and chairs. I am thinking a combination of velvet and leather pieces but we shall see. I was hoping Santa would furnish it for us, but no such luck.
I’ll share a full set of photos of the entire space once we get our furniture in place. Thank you for being here. If you have any questions, feel free to leave them below. You can see the before (pretty dramatic transformation here).
To my California friends enduring the terrible fires, you are constantly in our thoughts. The devastation is unfathomable. God be near.

Your basement is beautiful and cozy! Can’t wait to see your final reveal! Praying for everyone in the Los Angeles area affected by the fires. The devastation is just heartbreaking.
Courtney says
Thank you, Susan. I just can’t believe what I am seeing. Truly devastating and traumatic for everyone there.

Do you know anything about the light bulbs of the sconces? I really like them but there’s some reviews that complain they’re an odd size and hard to find replacements. There’s some that say they’re european bulbs.
Courtney says
Hi there! Hmmm. Interesting. We didn’t notice any difference. I thought they were too bright for our area so we already replaced them and it was no problem. We’ve used them in two homes now and really like. I hope that helps.

I love the shot of the tile and shelves. I’m dreaming of brass rails when we can eventually refurb our kitchen (years away sadly!)

This space is just gorgeous!
