My favorite type of home project is one that is quick and simple, but creates a big impact. Recently we swapped the outlet and light switch in our powder bathroom. A simple change from white to gold made a significant difference. And when you can make a swap for under $20, it’s a good day.
NEW GLAM OUTLET
It’s such a tiny change, but to me it makes the bathroom look more finished. Take a look at the before below.
THE BEFORE
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the white outlet (we have them throughout our home), but with the dark walls it definitely stands out. We chose to go glam with gold, but you could also use a $2 paintable outlet cover. That is what I plan to do in our music room.
This is the outlet kit (color gold) we used. It’s not too flashy and just the right shade of gold. There is something about the green mixed with the gold that makes me so happy. And what an easy swap.
This is what you would want to use for a light switch. There are many options available. We used this double wall plate and these rocker switches in the powder room.
MORE BATHROOM DECOR
- tissue cover: nice way to dress up the cardboard box
- marble tray: it’s the scalloped edges for me
- gold outlet cover: bought this for our powder room
- marble candle holders: love everything about these (great gift idea $40)
- amber soap dispensers: we have these in our guest bathroom and love
If you would rather just swap the cover (and not the actual outlet), this is a beautiful choice.
MOODY POWDER ROOM
I share before photos and all of the sources for our powder room in this post. It was a really fun project to work on. If you are contemplating a dark moody color, go for it! This little space makes me so happy every time I walk in.
We have dear friends in town, so off to spend time with them but I will be back to share more about how we are tackling 20 minute projects and I hope it helps you knock some things off your list. Have a wonderful day.

it is the little things that make a difference!
