Sushi Night Table Runner & Guest Post

January 5, 2011 by Courtney 27 Comments

My husband and I both love sushi. With toddlers, we don’t always get out on the town as much as we would like to. So we have many “date nights in” or entertain at our home. We have been talking about having some friends over for a sushi night soon. Of course my mind goes straight to . . . “Ooooo! How should I set the table?”  I remembered that I had bought a bamboo shade for our powder room at Ikea {a whopping ten dollar shade}. I love it in there because of the texture it adds. Not the greatest shot, but here is what I am talking about. IMG_8044 I had some leftover {after cutting the shade to custom fit the window}. PERFECT. For that same ten dollars I now have a runner and vase cozy {what’s a vase cozy you ask? . . . . a little slip cover for your vase. I love to switch them out. Here is a cable knit one I have made}. IMG_9106                                                    Here is the ten dollar shade from Ikea in it’s box. IMG_9110 I just lined it up with another runner to get the width right. I shortened the width just a bit so that the seems on either side of the runner would be symmetrical. IMG_9111IMG_9113                                  Switch out the centerpiece for an orchid and sushi night is on it’s way. IMG_9115 Then I added some extra bamboo around the vase. Super easy. Wrap and add one piece of clear tape. IMG_9117IMG_9118                  One Ikea Shade {$10.00}. One Vase Cozy. One Bathroom Shade. One Table Runner. Priceless. With the addition of our white dishes, chopsticks, and an orchid . . . I think we will be all set for sushi night. Of course we won’t be inviting anyone over until the Christmas boxes are back in their place! Will post more about our “closet cave” project soon. And head on over to  Megan’s! I am honored to be chatting it up on her blog about ORGANIZATION.  One of my all time favorite topics. She is running a great series at Honey We’re Home that I know you will love. getting organized

Awesome idea! Love it. And, it is the perfect table runner for Sushi Night. I just noticed that you used a mason jar on one of your candlesticks as a hurricane…I LOVE THAT! Can't wait to see how the cave is coming along.

Great idea. Bamboo is just awesome. I did a similar project except took the bamboo sushi mats we had and created some art pieces with them or used them as actual placemats. They go great with everything! 🙂
