The Best Triple Chocolate Cake

February 11, 2020 by Courtney 5 Comments

My mouth is watering already. This is what I call a “Once in a While” cake. You know the one. The one that fills the house with an amazing aroma and the one that everyone hopes you make for a special occasion. I was introduced to this cake at the Super Bowl party when my friend Shelley made it. Wow! I’m not even a sweet tooth girl but this decadent cake is flavorful and indulgent. It’s an easy recipe that will make you quite popular around your house.

It’s delicious as is or yummy with fresh fruit and a scoop of ice cream.

The Best Triple Chocolate Cake

Course Dessert
Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 1 hour

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg Devil's Food Cake Cake Mix
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 small pkg instant chocolate pudding
  • 3/4 cup extra virgin olive oil (just a scant less)
  • 3/4 cup water (just a scant less)
  • 12 oz chocolate chips
  • 1 tbsp powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°

  2. Lightly grease a bundt pan with oil and a sprinkle of flour (I use Olive Oil)

  3. In a large bowl, mix all ingredients together. A standing mixer works great.

  4. Bake for 1 hour or until a toothpick comes out clean.

  5. Let stand 20 minutes and remove from pan.

  6. Dust with powdered sugar prior to serving.

  7. Enjoy!

Recipe Notes

*Best served warm.

This is how it will look when you pull it out of the oven. The smell that wafts through your home the entire time it’s cooking is amazing. In fact my daughter came down wanting a second piece and told me it was hugely unfair that she had to smell the cake and not be able to eat more. Nice try, honey.

When it comes to taking it to a party, it’s fun to bring it as is or slice it up and place the pieces on a large tray. Both look great.

Let me know if you give this indulgent cake a try. It’s ideal for Valentine’s Day. Let them eat cake!

I have been making this cake since my husband and I graduated from college. Someone made it for his graduation party and we begged for the recipe. Mine is the same except the oil and water are 1/2 cup and it adds 1/4 cup of mayo and 3tbsp of Amaretto liquor. So yummy. It is our go to cake for my husband’s and all 4 of my daughter’s birthdays! Thanks for sharing😀

I love that so much!!! I can’t believe I am just learning about this cake. Love your changes, too. Always nice to know what others have done for successful recipes. My daughter is already requesting it for her birthday.
