I am over the moon because our laundry room is in full swing. It’s been a minute since we first embarked on this room. But we are officially working away to create a beautiful space. We are choosing to do most of the room ourselves so it will be a labor of love.
A LOOK BACK

When we moved in, we were surprised to find some damage in this room (not previously noted in the inspection). It’s a long story but ultimately we needed to rip out the bottom cabinets and tile floor. To be honest, I’m not sure I could have kept this flooring anyway.
After we ripped out the floor and cabinets, we had a new floor installed. It was installed improperly which meant it had to be ripped out. This room has been a roller coaster. We hired someone new to rip up the newly laid floor tile and reinstall a new floor. After that, we just sort of walked away from the project. We were frustrated and not wanting to spend more money.
A BLANK SLATE

But fast forward five years and here we are. Boy does time fly. It’s been a “let’s make it work” type of space for many years. It’s also been a place to toss random things. It already feels good knowing I will finally have storage in here. The washer and dryer are on the left side of the room (you can see a peek of them). The room is actually quite large which made it even more complicated. To be honest the design of it overwhelmed me so I asked my sister to take a look. Together we came up with a plan. I’ve since made some changes to the plan, but it gave me the confidence I needed to move forward.
MY INSPIRATION

This is one of my inspiration rooms. I am wanting to do a taupe cabinet with pretty neutral wallpaper. Here is a list of what I plan to include in the laundry room:
- neutral wallpaper
- taupe cabinets
- hanging rod
- large sink
- butcher block countertops
- cafe curtain
- pretty rug
- plenty of storage
- open shelves
- sconces
- large cabinet for mop/vacuum
TEAM EFFORT

As soon as the cabinets arrived, Ryan and I got to work. I put together the drawers while he assembled the boxes. It’s really been a great system.
*We went with RTA cabinets. It’s our first time using them.
PROGRESS

This is beyond exciting. I can’t believe I have cabinets! We will install an upper over the left and right base cabinet with a rod in the middle to dry clothes. The other side will have a sink and more cabinetry. At this point, though, we are taking a break from building cabinets to install crown molding. The rest of our home has crown throughout and I love the look. If we install the cabinets it will be too difficult to bring in a ladder to install the molding. We will be painting the trim work the same color as the cabinets.
Stay tuned for more updates. We are fitting this in amidst work life and family life so it may be a while . . . but that’s ok with me! I’m just so excited to finally see light at the end of the tunnel with this room. Thank you for following along.
What brand of cabinets did you choose?

Thank you, friend. I’m so thankful we’ve started! And it’s been fun to work on so far. But let’s see how I feel in a couple of weeks.
Looking forward to seeing your laundry room. It looks like you have a very good start. Love the color of the cabinets. I am obsessed with laundry rooms, crazy I know! My laundry room also needs an update so it will be great to see yours and get ideas.
