Loved getting back to the newsletter last night and have so appreciated all of your emails. It’s nice to be back in the swing of things. Today I wanted to share a round up of projects we have completed. We’ve been in our home for almost three years and have slowly made our way through the house putting our own spin on things. The style of the home is quite traditional so we have kept things true to that while still adding elements that feel more like us. Each project has a coordinating blog post in case you would like more details. Or feel free to leave a question in the comment section.
OUR BATHROOM
We knew a complete renovation was not in the budget so we chose to do a makeover in this space. Paint, hardware and lighting go a very long way in a space like this. Here is the before . . .
. . . and after
The room is so much lighter and brighter and I appreciate having the lower cabinet doors covered with the reeded detail to hide all of my stuff. You can see the complete makeover with sources and details here.
GUEST BATHROOM
before . . .
. . . .and after
We started with great bones and only wanted to give it a more current vibe. Hardware, a new mirror, lighting and faucet swap made all the difference. See the makeover here.
POWDER BATHROOM
before . . .
. . . and after
This was a complete gut but because it’s so small, it didn’t require a big budget. Dark and moody walls paired with a patterned tile gave this little space a ton of personality. The before and after details here.
THE KITCHEN
before . . .
. . . and after
No doubt the biggest transformation to date. This was a dream project and so fun to work on. I tried hard to incorporate updated elements while still making the kitchen feel like it has always been a part of the home.
THE FIREPLACE
before . . .
. . . and after
I woke up on New Year’s Day two years ago and said, “I’m painting the fireplace today!” I ran out and bought all of the supplies and this makeover took us two days. Very little investment of time and money but quite the change. Fireplace DIY makeover here.
MUDROOM CLOSET
before . . .
. . . . and after
This was another quick project that took only two days. Once a dumping ground, this space is now functional and holds all of our winter jackets (which we very much need here in Tennessee). How to create a coat closet here.
GUEST ROOM CLOSET
before . . .
. . . and after
This was one of my favorite spaces to makeover. It’s a joy to open this closet now and took very little time. See all of the details here.
OUR BACKYARD
before . . .
Our backyard was another huge project and undertaking. We actually thought about putting in a pool (why we chose not to here) but are so happy we created more useable space. It was once a very narrow patio that lead to a steep slope.
This angle, from the bottom of our yard, helps you see just how steep the slope was.
. . . and after
We know have a fire pit area and large lawn space for entertaining and hanging out. It was really special to be able to host our daughter’s birthday in our backyard. This is by far our favorite change to date. Backyard styling here.
NEXT UP
Now that the backyard is complete, we are jumping back into the basement project. In fact I am looking into paint colors this weekend. I’m excited to take you along as we transform this into a welcoming spot to entertain. It’s currently fully gutted and waiting for some love. The design plan can be seen here.
More before and after photos of our home in this post (the family room transformation is my favorite).
Have a wonderful day.

I just read your newsletter which is always one of my favorite emails to receive! I’m sure you’ll love having a townhouse at the beach. We have a small condo in Mammoth and it has been our favorite place to spend time as a family. I’ve also been re-reading your Alzheimer’s posts as my family is in the same place; it’s been reassuring to know we’re not the only ones going through this. And the before & after photos here are amazing – your home is gorgeous.

All of your updates are perfection. So looking forward to following your next project PLUS your beach townhouse. You two are a very busy couple and seem to work so well together on your renovations.
